On-line commissioning of SHIPTRAP

2006

Abstract The on-line commissioning of the Penning-trap mass spectrometer SHIPTRAP was successfully completed with a mass measurement of holmium and erbium radionuclides produced at SHIP. A large fraction of contaminant ions created in the stopping cell was identified to originate from the buffer-gas supply system. Using a liquid nitrogen cold trap they were reduced to a tolerable amount and mass measurements of Er 147 , Er 148 , and Ho 147 with relative uncertainties of about 1 × 1 0 − 6 were performed.

Recent Development in Analytical Methods for Identification of Off-Flavour Compounds

1983

The best resolution of individual off-flavour compounds is achieved by glass or quartz capillary gas chromatography. A special two-column system was used by which simultaneous instrumental detection and sniffing (odour desorption) of odorous compounds could be done. The measuring detectors were flame ionization (FID), electron capture (ECD), flame photometric (FPD) and a mass spectrometer (MS). Structural assignments of the odorous substances were done from MS data and verified by model compounds. Before the GC run the sample was collected at the head of the double column using a cold trap device. The sample for analysis was injected in liquid form or, more efficiently, thermally desorbed f…

Wine analysis: Study and comparison of techniques developed for the study of volatile constituents

1986

A number of headspace techniques have been compared, using a standard solution containing 12 compounds and a wine sample, viz.: (1) purge and cold trap injection; (2) dynamic headspace combined with liquidliquid extraction; (3) static headspace with and without preconcentration; (4) direct liquid injection. The sensitivity, reproducibility and speed of analysis were determined. Considering the results obtained and dependent on the purpose of the experiments and the number of samples to be examined the appropriate technique can be selected. ?? 1980 Friedr. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in indoor emission from decorative candles

2011

Abstract This study investigates PAHs indoor emissions from burning decorative candle in an indoor environment because emissions from burning wax in home have rarely been addressed. A total of 12 air samples were collected during the entire burning period of the decorative candles. Particulate and gaseous PAHs emissions were simultaneously measured by passing effluent through a filter (to collect particulate-phase PAHs), a cold trap and ORBO 43 tubes (to capture gaseous-phase PAHs). Analysis involved ultrasound extraction, followed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The measured total PAHs concentration (particulate + aqueous phase + gas phases) for the candles, reported as ma…
